The Tankard: Celebration of Horse Racing, Heritage, and Good Cheer

The much-anticipated Castle Tankard 2026 is set to gallop into town, promising an unforgettable day of world-class horse racing, vibrant camaraderie, and ice-cold refreshments.

The event will be held on the 9th of May at the Borrowdale Race Course, the home of the Tankard, it will start at 12:30 pm.

This year's edition invites racing enthusiasts, socialites, and casual fans alike to gather for what promises to be one of the highlights of the sporting calendar.

Five-year-old gelding Action Zone won the 65th edition of the US$50,000 Castle Tankard (Gr1) in 2025, ridden by Mathew Thackeray (or Monty Thackeray) and trained by Thomas Mason, Action Zone beat Jaeger Moon by three-quarters of a length, with Master Tik Tok in third. 

The Tankard has long been synonymous with thrilling races alongside other numerous activities, and 2026 is no exception. 

Spectators will be treated to a full card of adrenaline-pumping races, complete with thundering hooves and photo-finish drama as jockeys and their steeds battle it out for glory and the coveted title.

Headlining the event is the sponsorship by Castle Lager, Delta's iconic brewing heritage brand. 

Racegoers can enjoy a chilled Castle Lager as they soak up the electric atmosphere — a perfect pairing of sporting tradition and refreshment.

Beyond the racing, expect a festival atmosphere at Borrowdale: fashionable racegoers dressed to impress, and live entertainment.

Whether you're a seasoned punter studying the form guide or a first-time attendee soaking in the spectacle, The Tankard 2026 promises a day of passion, style, and unforgettable memories.
