Independent Women for Economic Development drives grassroots empowerment agenda

The affiliate, Independent Women for Economic Development (IW4ED), is emerging as a pivotal force in advancing women’s participation in Zimbabwe’s economic transformation, with a strong alignment to national development priorities and grassroots mobilisation, led by Vimbainashe Chikwature.
The affiliate was formed on the 25th of November 2025, it has 16 000 members from the day of formation to date across all 10 provinces.
Guided by a clear mandate, IW4ED is working to support and operationalise the national vision as espoused by the Second Republic under the leadership of His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
Central to its mission is the attainment of Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income economy through inclusive growth and broad-based empowerment.
The organisation places women at the centre of economic activity, positioning them as disciplined and productive contributors to national development.
Through structured programmes, IW4ED is championing entrepreneurship, skills development, and value addition initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainable livelihoods across communities.
In a move that underscores its grassroots orientation, the affiliate is strengthening economic participation among women, particularly single women, by establishing organised economic units from cell level up to the national structure. This approach ensures inclusivity and provides a platform for women to actively engage in income-generating projects while contributing to the broader economy.
IW4ED is also playing a complementary role to Government and ruling party programmes across key sectors such as agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and trade.
By aligning its activities with these strategic areas, the organisation is reinforcing ongoing efforts to stimulate productivity and economic resilience at community level.
Equally significant is the affiliate’s emphasis on promoting discipline, unity, patriotism, and ideological clarity among its members. IW4ED has taken a firm stance in rejecting foreign interference and regime-change agendas, advocating instead for home-grown solutions anchored in national sovereignty and development.
Furthermore, the organisation is focused on nurturing a cadre of women leaders who are not only economically empowered but also politically conscious and socially responsible.
This leadership development thrust is expected to create a new generation of women equipped to contribute meaningfully to both economic and national governance processes.
As Zimbabwe continues on its development trajectory, IW4ED’s integrated approach to women’s empowerment is set to play a critical role in unlocking economic opportunities, strengthening communities, and advancing the country’s vision for shared prosperity.
