Chibuku Neshamwari Festival Celebrates Traditional Dance in 2026

Zimbabwe’s cultural community is set to come alive again with the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival 2026, scheduled to run from May 9 to July 11.

Designed to promote and celebrate the country’s rich heritage, the festival will feature a competitive yet unifying celebration of traditional dance, culminating in a national final.

The programme begins with ten provincial finals, each offering dancers an opportunity to represent their region, showcase authentic rhythms and movement, and earn a place at the national stage.

Running under the theme “Ngoma Ngairire Shamwari, Tshay’sgubhu Mngane,” the festival invites communities and participants alike to experience cultural expression as both art and identity.

A major highlight is the scale of the rewards available to outstanding performers. At the provincial level, the top three contestants will win USD2,500, USD1,500, and USD1,000 respectively.

Those who advance to the national final can compete for even bigger prizes, with USD15,000 for first place, USD10,000 for second, and USD7,500 for third.

Participation is open to traditional dance groups, but entry requires proper registration through the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association (ZNTDA).

More than a contest, the Chibuku Neshamwari festival aims to bring people together through artistic expression, strengthen cultural pride, and highlight the diversity of Zimbabwe’s traditions across every province.
