Netone: No executive on the run

Netone: No executive on the run, Introduces tourist sim

by Allan Mbotshwa

Zimbabwean telecommunications giant NetOne has officially dismissed viral social media reports claiming that two of its senior executives—Chief Technical Officer Christopher Muchechemera and Chief Financial Officer Nyasha Nyambuya—had fled the country.

In a decisive press statement issued Tuesday, the company labeled the allegations as "inaccurate and inconsistent" with its governance standards, confirming that both officials remain in office and are actively executing their duties.

The company urged the public to disregard the misinformation, emphasizing the "highly reputable standing" of its leadership.

This clarification comes as NetOne ramps up its media engagement strategy, shifting the focus away from digital rumors and toward national development and connectivity.

Beyond addressing the recent controversy, NetOne is making significant strides in supporting Zimbabwe’s "Open for Business" policy.

A standout initiative is the launch of the Tourist SIM card, a strategic tool designed to integrate visitors into the local economy immediately upon arrival.

Key Features of the Tourist SIM:

• Zero Initial Cost: Available free of charge at major ports of entry and airports.

• Extended Validity: Remains active for 90 days, catering specifically to short-term travelers and business consultants.

• Flexible Bundles: Tailored data packages that ensure visitors can navigate, share, and communicate without the hurdle of high roaming costs.
By introducing specialized products like the Tourist SIM and extending off-peak data hours (10:00 PM to 5:00 AM), NetOne is pivoting toward a more agile, customer-centric model.

These moves don't just provide affordable internet; they foster digital and financial inclusion.

Through partnerships with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, NetOne is leveraging its infrastructure to create income-generating opportunities for the youth across all ten provinces.

Ultimately, by maintaining transparency regarding its leadership and innovating its service delivery, NetOne is positioning itself as a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s digital transformation.
