Sanganai/Hlanganani 2024 Set to Boost Zimbabwe's Tourism Industry

The 17th edition of Sanganai/Hlanganani – World Tourism Expo is all set to take place in the city from September 12 to 14. The annual event, aimed at promoting Zimbabwe's tourism industry, is expected to attract a significant number of international buyers and exhibitors. 

Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Barbara Rwodzi, announced during a media briefing that the expo will be held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair. This year's event will focus on sustainable tourism initiatives, gastronomy, and youth innovation. 

Rwodzi highlighted the importance of hosting the expo in Bulawayo for the sixth consecutive year, emphasizing its potential to benefit small tourism operators in the region.  "By bringing buyers to their doorstep, we aim to support their growth and development," she said. 

One of the key highlights of this year's expo will be the Tourism Innovation Hubs, a collaboration with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation Science, and Technology Development. 

This initiative aims to provide a platform for young academics to showcase their innovative ideas related to tourism. In addition to the expo, a MICE Masterclass will be held to capacitate stakeholders on MICE tourism promotion. 

Experts from across Africa will share their insights and discuss strategies for growth in this sector. "We are confident that Sanganai/Hlanganani will continue to be a leading tourism exhibition in Africa, inviting regional countries to participate and showcase their investment opportunities," Minister Rwodzi stated. 

The expo has already attracted significant interest, with 410 companies registering to participate, surpassing the initial target of 400. Eight countries, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Malawi, Tanzania, Iran, Angola, and Nigeria, have confirmed their participation. 

While Rwanda and Mozambique have indicated their inability to participate due to financial constraints, the overall enthusiasm for the event remains high.  Sanganai/Hlanganani is expected to contribute significantly to Zimbabwe's tourism industry and strengthen its position as a preferred destination for travellers.
